The United Nations is closely monitoring the escalating incidents of gender-based violence in South Africa. Executive Director for UN Women, Phumzile Mlambo-Ngcuka, says it’s disturbing that perpetrators are getting younger, and that the crimes are becoming more gruesome. She was speaking at the 30th anniversary of a Cape Town based gender based violence NGO, Ilitha Labantu. She says funds are needed to be able to eliminate gender based violence.
