COVID-19 Pandemic | Effect of lockdown on automative sector

The lockdown has negatively affected the local automotive industry. As one of the largest manufacturing sectors in South Africa’s economy, vehicle and component production accounted for 27,6 percent of the country’s output in 2019.From manufactures to dealerships, new innovative ways to stay afloat had to be found.Economists say it will take a while to get this sector back to its former state.The automotive sector contributed 6.4% to the national GDP in 2019.Therefore it is a critical player in the future industrial and economic landscape of the country.
