2019 Mandela Marathon on an upward trend
The 2019 Mandela Marathon has grown substantially since its start in 2012. It’s attracted more than 20 000 runners this year. The 42km event in the men’s race has been won by Ethiopian Muhajr Haredin Sraj in 2hours 26 minutes, 18 seconds.
The winner in the women’s race is Sofiya Shemsu Chegen in 2hours, 45 minutes, 21 seconds.
Despite their training for this marathon, both had found the going tough – not quite what they had expected. Mlungisi Khumalo reports…
