The struggle of the class of June 1976 helped to bring about freedom and democracy for all South Africans but 41 years later, this is not enjoyed by all. Almost 50% of South Africans – which constitutes women and girls – live in fear of being attacked, raped and murdered. Femicide and other crimes against women are on the increase nationally. Authorities have done little to reassure women that they are safe.
