Siemens’ Johan Helberg on why Africa needs to embrace automation

Africa’s share of robots sold in 2015 was approximately 0.2 per cent; 15 times lower than its share of GDP. In 2016 the smartphone penetration for Africa was 30 per cent compared to a 51 per cent global average, creating limitations around the penetration of more modern applications and uses for mobile technology. CNBC Africa’s Gugulethu Mfuphi spoke to Johan Helberg, Siemens Country Manager in Kenya for more on automation and digitalization.
