Social Security Agency workers affiliated to trade union NEHAWU embarked on a national strike. Workers are unhappy about their workload being increased without consultation. They have been tasked with fixing the shoddy workmanship of CPS contractors.
The workers are also demanding the suspension of the new client verification process known as biometric enrolments of grant beneficiaries. In the Eastern Cape, SASSA beneficiaries were left stranded as striking workers downed tools in King William’s Town.
