Anti-apartheid veteran Ahmed Kathrada would have turned 90 years old today.
‘Uncle Kathy’ as he was fondly known was born in 1929 and spent most of his life fighting oppression.
He was part of the group of Rivonia Trialists and was imprisoned for 26 years.
After his release and in the new democratic era, Ahmed Kathrada served as Parliamentary Councillor to former President Nelson Mandela.
Uncle Kathy died in 2017.
To tell us more about his legacy, we’re joined by Mandla Nkomfe, Deputy Chairperson at the Ahmed Kathrada Foundation Board and Zohra Kathrada-Areington, Uncle Kathy’s niece and former personal assistant.
