The number of the day is R136 million. It’s the estimated damage to infrastructure in Kwazulu-Natal after fatal storms and flooding earlier this week. Around a dozen lives that were lost cannot be recovered.
But the province now does face the arduous task of rebuilding. On Wednesday we looked at the scores of schools that were affected by the storm a tragedy for poor students who are heading into the matric exams. Property, roads and bridges, power and water supply was also affected. KwaZulu-Natal was declared a disaster area today by the provincial premier.
