Residents of Galeshewe and Greenpoint in Kimberley have blockaded roads ahead of a city-wide shutdown in protest against an electricity hike by the local Sol Plaatje Municipality.
This is the second mass march by residents of the Northern Cape capital in the past three weeks. Businesses in the city have been urged to close as community members are expected to march from all parts of Kimberley to the municipality today. They want the resignation of the municipality’s Chief Financial Officer and Municipal Manager for their roles in the electricity increase. For more on this we cross to Keith Sayster in Galeshewe.
