“I was scared to act against Mahlangu”: Selebano

Could fear have played a role in the Life Esidimeni decision-making process? At least one of the officials implicated in the deaths of 143 mentally ill patients – suspended Gauteng Health Head Dr Barney Selebano – claims he was scared of his boss, former MEC Qedani Mahlangu. On day two of cross-examination at the Life Esidimeni arbitration hearings, Selebano also labelled the decision to move patients to illegal NGOs as shameful and regrettable.
