Hardwork pays off for Mlangeni, Phetla

“Black child, your dreams are valid” This affirmation couldn’t ring more true than it is for our next guests who continue to push boundaries in the music and dance spaces.
One toured Russia as the first black dancer to embody the famous Dying Swan on stage while the other carved out a name for himself with various bands and ensembles, including the Amandla Freedom Ensemble, with which he has released two albums.
We are referring to none other than Soweto born principal dancer and choreographer Kitty Phetla and jazz trumpeter and composer Mandla Mlangeni who were named 2019 Standard Bank Young Artist Award winners for jazz and dance respectively earlier this week.
