Democracy Gauge – Wandile Mthiyane from KwaMashu Township in Durban

Time now for our regular Democracy Gauge feature in which you rate our democracy with three colours. Green means that our democracy is healthy. Yellow means that we must be careful. And red means that our democracy is in danger. 25-year-old Wandile Mthiyane from KwaMashu Township in Durban, KwaZulu-Natal began to live his dream when he was given an opportunity to study Architecture at Andrews University in the United States. Hailing from a poverty stricken background, Mthiyane says he made it his life’s goal to return home and give back. Mthiyane argues that the vulnerable and low income communities are in desperate need of dignified homes. As the Founder of Ubuntu Design Group he’s on a mission to create change, one home at a time.

Samkelisiwe Gumede produced today’s Democracy Gauge. It acknowledges all citizens and is powered by SABC News.
