Basic Education Department disappointed over drownings at schools

The Basic Education Department has expressed disappointment at the lack of immediate communication by two schools following the fatal drowning of two pupils this past week. Department spokesperson Elijah Mhlanga says thorough investigations must be conducted into both incidents. Last night, the Gauteng Department of Education confirmed the death of Keamohetswe Shaun Seboko. He was found dead in a Hostel Swimming pool at LaerSkool Bekker in Magaliesburg on Wednesday. At the same time, the Gauteng Education Department says it will conduct a full audit of school camps in the province that have water-related activities.
This in order to ensure the necessary measures are in place regarding pupil safety. On Wednesday 13-year-old Enoch Mpianzi went missing while on a school camp in the North West.
