The ANC has stopped a press briefing in which former members of the Women’s League sought to clear their names. The women resigned when Winnie Madikizela-Mandela was appointed as president of the Women’s league when there was tension between a faction supporting her and another supporting Albertina Sisulu.
The matter resurfaced on social media when the 11 women were painted as traitors by EFF leader Julius Malema during his speech at Madikizela-Mandela’s funeral. ANC deputy secretary general Jessie Duarte says they stopped the presser because it is the ANC that should defend its members.
